Frequently asked questions

My PDF won't open. What should I try first?

Upload it here. Ghostscript re-processes the file structure, fixing broken cross-reference tables and malformed streams, the most common reasons a PDF fails to open.

What causes a PDF to become corrupted?

Incomplete downloads, interrupted file transfers, storage errors, or a crash during saving. The result is a file that PDF viewers refuse to open or display incorrectly.

Can all corrupted PDFs be repaired?

Not always. If the core content is missing or overwritten, recovery fails. Structural corruption, like broken cross-references, truncated streams, or bad headers, can usually be fixed.

Will the repaired PDF look exactly the same?

In most cases yes. Text, images, and formatting are typically fully recovered. Minor layout differences can occur if some data was lost.

Does it work on password-protected PDFs?

No. Remove the password first with our Unlock PDF tool, then repair.

Do I need to sign up?

No account required. Guests get one repair per day; free accounts get 10.

Is there a file size limit?

50 MB per file.

Is my file safe?

Your file is processed in memory and deleted the moment your download starts. Nothing is stored.
